USDT exists on several blockchains. The coin has the same value, but the transfer takes a different route — and each route has its own fee, speed and address format.
TRC-20 (Tron network)
- Address starts with the letter T
- Fees are usually low
- Fast confirmation, usually a few minutes
- Very common for small and medium loads
ERC-20 (Ethereum network)
- Address starts with 0x
- Fees vary with network load and can be high
- Supported by almost every wallet and exchange
- Use it when the recipient explicitly asks for it
The only rule that really matters
Send on the network the recipient asked for — not the cheaper one. If the address you received starts with T and you pick ERC-20 on the exchange (or the reverse), the transfer may fail or be lost.
Checklist before pressing “Send”
- The exchange network matches the network the recipient named
- The address format fits the network (T… or 0x…)
- You have enough balance to cover the network fee
- A test amount was sent and confirmed
