Bluffing in Poker — The Art of Making Opponents Fold

• Pure Bluff: you have nothing, and you\'re betting on the opponent to fold.
• Semi-Bluff: you\'re on a Draw (Flush/Straight) — if the opponent folds: you win now. If they call: you have equity to make the hand. Pot odds calculation.
• Blocker Bluff: you hold a card that blocks the opponent\'s strong hand (e.g., A♠ on a 3-spade board — the opponent is less likely to have the Nut Flush).
• Overbet Bluff: Bet of 150-200% of the pot. Represents only Nuts or Air. Controls the opponent\'s entire range.

A bluff into a pot of P with Bet of B must succeed at least: B / (P + B) of the time.

Practical examples:

• Half-pot bet (50%) → must succeed 33% of the time
• Full pot bet (100%) → must succeed 50% of the time
• Overbet 200% → must succeed 67% of the time

See? An Overbet Bluff must work ⅔ of the time — so it\'s used only when the opponent\'s range is very weak.

Triple Barrel is a bluff on flop, turn, and river. Works only when: (1) the story is credible (Board changes in your favor), (2) the opponent can fold (not a Fish Calling Station), (3) you have Blockers to their strong hand. Classic example: open from CO, C-Bet on a dry flop, Barrel on a turn that brings a scare card (Overcard or possible Flush), and Overbet on the river with a Blocker. See also C-Bet.

1. Bluffing Fish. Amateurs don\'t fold. Bluffing them = donation.
2. Inconsistent story. Check-Call on flop then Overbet on river = "obvious bluff".
3. Bluffing Multiway. Against 3+ opponents someone always has a hand. Don\'t bluff.
