You place an ante and receive five cards; the dealer shows one card. You then fold, place a bet of double the ante, or pay for an option: exchanging one or more cards, or buying a sixth card to improve your hand. The dealer reveals their hand — if they do not qualify with ace-king or better, the ante pays even money.
For the price of one ante you receive an extra card and keep the best five of six. It is a strong option when you hold four cards to a flush or an open-ended straight, and a losing option with a weak pair, where the extra card rarely changes the outcome.
